The first 9 Beginner Acoustic Tunes

These songs are your structured learning path. Each tutorial features 8 step-by-step lessons that cover chord shapes, rhythm, fingerstyle, riffs, and a second-guitar part you can learn to play along with me.

#1 – Talking About A Revolution

Talking About A Revolution 8 step by step lessons

We begin by getting comfortable with four open-position chords and strumming patterns before we learn how to play Talking About A Revolution.

You’ll also practise the chromatic exercise before learning the full arrangement. Finally, we create a second guitar part and perform the song together.

#2 – Redemption Song

Redemption Song 8 step by step lessons

To play Bob Marley’s Redemption Song, we break down all sections using loops—including a note-for-note look at the intro.

After learning the full arrangement, we build second and third guitar parts, then perform the song together.

#3 – Robin Hood

Robin Hood 8 step by step lessons

While learning Robin Hood by Ocean Colour Scene, you’ll improve both picking and strumming accuracy using loops.

We add new chromatic exercises, then develop a second guitar part for performance to play it together.

#4 – One More Cup Of Coffee

One More Cup Of Coffee 8 step by step lessons

Before diving into Bob Dylan’s One More Cup of Coffee, we develop and extend our chromatic exercises.

Then we explore each section using loops, learn the full song, and create a second guitar part so we can play it together.

#5 – The Drugs Don’t Work

The Drugs Don't Work 8 step by step lessons

The chords may be simple, but Richard Ashcroft’s The Drugs Don’t Work features some rhythmically nuanced and challenging strumming.

We begin by learning to read rhythmic notation, break down each section with loops, and finally copy the original beautiful second guitar part.

#6 – Time Of Your Life

Time Of Your Life 8 step by step lessons

The key challenge here is mastering fast sweep picking. We’ll start with a dedicated exercise, then learn to play Time of Your Life just like the original.

We begin with a dedicated exercise, then learn the full song, wrapping up with a second guitar part including a note-for-note violin solo.

#7 – Wonderwall

Wonderwall 8 step by step lessons

With its fast-paced strumming, Wonderwall demands precise strumming exercises before we explore its unique chord shapes and progressions.

We explore each section in depth and create a second guitar arrangement to enhance the original part.

#8 – Rewind

Rewind 8 step by step lessons

Though slower in tempo, Rewind by Paolo Nutini features intricate and detailed 16th-note strumming patterns that demand precise timing and control.

We work through each section using loops, then expand the arrangement by writing two second guitar parts.

#9 – Ain’t No Sunshine

Ain't No Sunshine 8 step by step lessons

The final tune is played fingerstyle. First, you’ll work through three preparatory fingerstyle pieces.
