Stuck In The Middle With You | TAB
Let’s look at TAB for all sections, starting with the intro, the chords sound complicated but really, they just spell out the intervals used.
The first chord is a D in an A-shape, we then add the A in the bass to fatten it up.
Next, move down and find the b7 but we don’t play the 3rd, hence dom7omit3. This is followed by moving down to the 6, still without a 3rd.
In the second bar, we start with the dom7omit3, and go down to the 6omit3. As all this is repeated, we first fit an open position D chord, without a 3rd, but with the 5th in the bass and get a D5/A.
This all sounds very complicated, but if you follow the TAB, play slowly, and then along with the record, you’ll get there.
Here’s the verse.
The rhythm for the first chord is a bit strange. You need to play 1 +, 2 +, then only the +, but let the open strings ring. To get this right, you must play along with the original.
The G chord is using the same concept. Follow the TAB, and play along with the original.
The signature A – C – G chords deviates from the rhythm we established, you’ll need to practice these two bars slowly, then try to incorporate them with the preceding D.
The final D5/A uses a hammer-on and makes the beginning D chord sound new.
Here’s the bridge TAB, now the rhythm change.
The new rhythm is played on the beat, rather than mainly off. To make this exciting, we mute the chord with the fretting hand.
After two bars of this new rhythm, we incorporate the slide part in a D chord, getting new extension names again. Notice how the rhythm of the slide is different in bar 3, compared with bar 4.
Again, you must listen to the original, study the TAB, start slowly, and then play along.
The final D chord is played with the thumb over the 6th string, then the open A and D strings. The high fretted notes are the same as what we used when sliding in, it’s an E shape.
