Soul Mates | TAB
Let’s take a look at each section of Grant Nicholas‘s Soul Mates, here’s the intro using TAB (capo fret 4).
A couple of things stand out here to me. The picking pattern is the same throughout, creating common tones, The C5/B is on beat 4, and so is the last C chord.
Let’s check the verse.
This is very similar, we maintain the change of the passing chord on beat 4, now doing it for an Am chord as well, clever stuff.
Having been so focused on chord VI, the bridge needs to go somewhere new, right?
Dm (Dorian) and F (Lydian) both have a feeling of moving on, this works great for a bridge like this. At first, we don’t use the trick of changing the chord on beat four, although, in the last two bars, it comes back again.
Here’s the chorus, this feels a bit like the greatest hits of all chord progressions used so far.
Lastly, here’s the outro. We start with a new chord, the C/E. I like how this is similar to the C/G we had during the bridge.
When you can play all sections individually and get to terms with the picking pattern, return to the chords, lyrics and chord chart lesson.
