Heart Of Gold | TAB
Let’s go through three pieces of TAB as this is all you need to play Heart Of Gold, here’s the first intro riff which later on comes back, most notably during the outro chorus.
I really like the 1 + where strings 5 and 4 are played, I think this works really well when playing this part on just one acoustic.
That big Em in bar 2 is so powerful as well as it’s followed by the hammer on lick which sounds a bit like Wish You Were Here, although Neil of course released Heart Of Gold before Pink Floyd’s classic.
Here’s the verse which is also played in the intro and instrumental sections.
The chord progression for the verse is VI – IV – V – I. Notice the similarity to Stand By Me which is the same, just starting where Heart Of Gold ends, so: I – VI – IV – V.
Having chords IV and V in the middle like this makes the progression move forward in a less-rested way.
The strumming above is modified to work on one guitar as it incorporates how the bass starts and finishes with the root.
Here’s the chorus.
Again, I’ve modified this to work on just one guitar, the mutes on beat 3, and the 16th note before it is essential in order to change the feel of this section.
The bass line movements at the end have been fleshed out with more strings to fatten this up to work on one acoustic.
