Patience | TAB
Let’s go through each section using TAB as this will get the chords and extensions you saw in the chords lesson to make more sense. Here’s the intro.
There’s plenty to discuss here, first of all, the entire song is played in the intro, apart from the outro. This is genius as once the singing starts, we feel as if we already know the tune!
What I’ve done with the TAB is combine the guitars on the original recording into one part, learn this first, and then perhaps develop your version.
You need to, bar by bar, work out how to play this. As long as you keep the pendulum movement going, you’ll get the rhythm right.
The chords are named add, rather than sus as they may be a sus but then go to the 3rd over such a short period, I grouped them.
For example, in bar 2, it is G – Gsus4 – G – Gsus2 – G, but writing G – Gadd4 – Gadd9 makes it less cluttered.
Once you can do it, you’ll see how the verse (below) is very similar, I’m just picking more individual notes, making the part cleaner.
Make sure you get those little pull-offs right and don’t ignore the bend in bar 3, just bending it slightly does make a difference.
Here’s the chorus, compare it to what happened in the intro.
And finally, here’s the outro, I really like this part, should you have a loop pedal you can solo over it or even layer more rhythm parts.
