We Are Family | TAB
Let’s work out how to play We Are Family in an improvised way by studying 10 examples. Once you can play these, stop staring at the TAB and just let it happen!
Here’s example 1. Use the loop above to practise with the band and me.

The aim here should be to play without any extra muted strums, keep it as clean as possible.
Here’s example 2, now we do add muted strums. Try to not ad any more than written and play along with me using the loops.

It may seem like a small addition (one muted strum) but this is all about control and accuracy so in reality, it’s actually extremely difficult!
Here’s the next example.

Now we have added loads of muted strums, perhaps now is a good point to try playing along with the original recording, I’ve made a backing track for We Are Family, It’s been tuned down 8 cents so it feels better for you to practise with, there are also no chords on it.
Here’s example 4. Here we don’t play the root note anymore. Your aim should be to play all these examples perfectly.

Here’s example 5, now we have some extensions added. Notice the note that changes in bar four. It’s an F/G or G11, the note that is added is a G on string 2.

Here’s example 6, there’s more muted strums in this one. Can you play exactly as written?

The final example for the chorus has that chromatic chord sequence at the end, this is a great end to the song as well.

Let’s move on to the verse; this is example 8 (play along to the loop in the playlist).

Here’s example 9, a few more things happening here.

The final example moves this down the neck.

When you can play all examples exactly as written, it’s easy to let go and jam it out!
