These Boots Are Made for Walkin’ | TAB

Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots Are Made for Walkin’ can be played on just one acoustic guitar, even having those awesome horn riffs incorporated.

Here’s TAB for the intro and verse riffs, exactly as the original, start with learning this.

Once you get that double hammer on down, this riff plays itself. Naming these chords is difficult, I feel that no matter what I go for, I’ll be wrong.

The E could be described as an E7#9. You hammer on from a minor 3rd and b7 to a 3rd and root, but E7#9 (including all intervals, feels wrong somehow). So I went for E, which clearly isn’t 100% right.

The A5 chord presents the same problem, you hammer on from the b7 and 4th to the root and 5th, and there is no 3rd, but A7sus4 just feels wrong, so I just called it an A5.

Here’s the chorus, this is a modal interchange, the G is borrowed from the key of Em. You could also describe it as a bIIIx.

Let’s now look at how to incorporate These Boots Are Made for Walkin’s horn riffs on just one little acoustic guitar, first up is what the horns play during the verse, which looks like this using TAB:

These Boots Are Made for Walkin' TAB, verse 3 horn riff.

Start playing slowly, then gradually bring it up to tempo. When you feel ready, play along with the original recording at the top of this page.

Here’s the Outro, there are two ways you could play this, try both!

These Boots Are Made for Walkin' TAB, outro horn riff.

There may only be three chords in These Boots Are Made for Walkin’, but it’s what you do with them that counts which I feel is somehow what this tune is all about!
