Shape of You | TAB
Ed’s greatest-selling tune, Shape of You is based around a four-chord progression and the rhythm 123, 123, 12, accenting the first rhythm of that pattern.
Here are the common tones using TAB, play this first.
Do ensure you can clearly see the 123, 123, 12 rhythm (16th notes) and all intervals in relation to the chords before you move on.
Here’s a guitar part that simply keeps the rhythm, the Bsus4 is ignored as the rhythm falls on the part where we play the bass note.
Finally, let’s go further and extend the chords, play around with it a bit, and include that Bsus4.
Here we go from C#m to C#m7, F#m to F#m7. For the A, we just stay put, then change the pattern so we start with the chord, not the bass.
This way we can include the sus4 extension. It is a bit tricky to get right, especially if you’re going to sing at the same time!
After seeing Shape of You’s TAB like above, maybe you can come up with your own guitar part?
