Girls Just Wanna Have Fun | TAB
The intro is what comes back as an instrumental and chorus. This is the hook of the song so let’s start with this, here’s the TAB.
In bar 1, we first hammer onto a sus4, then go back to a straight F#. This is followed by a C#, then back to the F#. It says C#/F# but that’s just because the bass is playing F# throughout.
Should you want to make it really simple you could think of it as F#sus4 F# C# F#, or maybe even Isus4 – I – V – I.
In bar 2, we play exactly the same thing again just adding a C# again at the end. Just like I mentioned earlier, the C#/F# is there just to indicate that the bass is playing an F#.
In bar 3, we play exactly what happened in bar 1, although the bass plays D#, making the chords mainly D#m7, not F#.
In bar 4, we finally get some variation as we play B – C# on the last two beats.
During the outro, this riff is simplified by using only bars 1 and 4, like this.
The verse could be played using muted picking, like this.
Continue this style of picking for the bridge and you’ll get this.
Feel free to develop this, perhaps try it in a different octave.
Overall, the hardest part of this tune is the key signature, maybe you should raise it a semitone and then use either a guitar tuned down a half step or the Digitech drop pedal…
