Crazy Little Thing Called Love | TAB

Let’s learn how to play Queen‘s Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen on both acoustic and electric guitar.

Do try both approaches as this will give you a deeper understanding of how the tune is constructed. The acoustic part is big and bold, using open-position chords and plenty of bass lines. The electric part, on the other hand, leaves the bass line to the bassist and keeps the chords tighter and more compact.

Let’s begin with the verse (the intro is simply the first bar repeated).

Freddie strums this in a very straightforward way—hitting all four strings constantly. This may have been a deliberate production trick, relying on the rest of the band and Brian May’s more intricate guitar work to contrast it. If you’re playing on your own, break up the strumming as indicated in the TAB above.

Now let’s look at the electric part. I’ve written this so it works as if you’re the only guitarist in the band.

Using an A shape for the riff along with an open D string keeps things focused and makes it easier to move into the second half, where we shift to a C-shaped G chord.

Let’s move on to the chorus, which follows each verse. Here’s an acoustic arrangement that would work well if you’re playing solo.

The stabs on Bb and C provide a nice break from the driving D riff. Here’s how it looks on the electric:

Again, we use that A shape for the D riff to make the transition to Bb and C smoother.

Now for the bridge—the most complex section—starting with an acoustic version:

The bass line has been woven into the G and Bb chords. Play along with the original to really get the feel. On the final line, I’ve added D5 and A5 to the chromatic movement for extra thickness.

Here’s the same part for electric guitar:

Make sure to try both arrangements and play along with the original recording.
