Crazy Little Thing Called Love | TAB
Let’s go through all sections of this tune as if we play it on the acoustic, as well as on the electric.
Do try both as this will give you a deeper understanding of how this tune is put together. The acoustic parts are big, use open-position chords and include a lot of bass lines.
The electric part on the other hand leaves the bass line to the bass player and keeps the chords compact.
Let’s start with the verse (the intro is just the first bar repeated).
Freddie plays this more like a beginner (strumming all four strings constantly, this may be a fun production trick but it requires the band and Brian’s more sophisticated guitar work to contrast it.
If you are on your own, do break up the strumming as indicated above.
Let’s now look at the electric part, I’ve made this up to work as if you are the only guitarist in the band.
Using an A shape for the riff with an open D string makes the part more focused and easier to get to the second half where we play a C-shaped G chord.
Let’s move on to the chorus which happens after each verse, here’s an acoustic part that would work if it’s only you.
The stabs on Bb and C break up the intense D riff, here it is on the electric:
Again, we use that A shape for the D riff so we can get to Bb and C this time.
Here’s the bridge on the acoustic, this is the most complex part.
The bass line has been incorporated for G and Bb. Play along with the recording and it’ll all make sense.
On the last line, I’ve added a D5 and A5 to the chromatic lines as this fattens it all up.
Here’s the same section for the electric guitar.
Do play both these parts along with the original recording.
