Let’s work through what you could play for this cover band standard—it’s super easy!
Intro
I like playing power chords for the Bb – G. I’ve written them as full triads here, as other instruments play this and it’s important to note that the G (chord IIx) is major, not minor.
For the Dm stabs, I like playing a power chord first (D5), then a Dm.
I also sometimes play the first note of the power chords as just the bass note, like this:

Verse
For the verse and all other Dm chord stabs, I like moving around the fretboard to build tension.

Chorus
The chorus essentially mirrors the intro, without returning to the power chords.

With horn line
If you’re in a band without a horn section but have a keyboard player covering the horns, you can make it more interesting by playing the horn line on guitar as well:
