Teenage Dream | TAB
Essentially a two-chord song, Teenage Dream‘s chords only go from IV – V. To spice that movement up, we first extend the chords, then add a passing note in the bass, like this:
||: Ebmaj7 (G) | Fsus4 :||
However, I prefer to call that G bass note a chord, and to me, it sounds best if you make it a Gm7.
Also, it is played pushed, meaning it comes in on the 4 +. And, the F chord doesn’t start until 1 +. However, to put it in the 2nd bar would be pushing it (no pun intended). So I ended up putting it in like this in the Teenage Dream chords and lyrics lesson.
||: Ebmaj7 (Gm7) | Fsus4 :||
What’s really important when playing these chords is to get the rhythm right. Below is some notation for the main rhythm. There is also a guitar part that plays constant 8th notes shown.
Should you play Teenage Dreams in a band, it would be a good idea to move between these two parts.
If you play the acoustic guitar, then you could use a loop pedal, feel free to change the chord shapes for the big chords to create some variation. Maybe only loop the 8th notes.
If you want to play fingerstyle and don’t like loop pedals, here are Teenage Dreams chords arranged for that, using TAB.
