Fairytale of New York | TAB
It took me three days to work all this TAB out for Fairytale of New York, let’s start with the intro!
That’s in 4/4 but free time, play along with the original to make it make sense.
Here’s the slow verse.
That A/G is so awesome, I love how it resolves and sound so Lydian. The way the last bar is varied is excellent arranging.
The final time when we repeat but displace the intro idea is pure class. We go straight to the fast 6/8 after it, very nice.
Here’s that instrumental section, again, play with the original recording.
Initially, I was strumming more but felt picking the notes sounded better, it was also easier!
Here’s the third verse (first at tempo in 6/8). This later comes back as an instrumental section.
Verse 4 and 5 is different, like this:
Let’s now look at Fairytale of New York’s chorus using TAB.
The third chorus is the same apart from the stop, like this.
Next, we slow down for another instrumental section, it’s similar to what you’ve heard before but not the same, it’s all great arrangement work. This section sets up the breakdown verse.
Here’s that breakdown verse. it’s got a 3/8 bar in it!
Finally, this is the outro, I love this part.
