You’re Still The One | TAB
Let’s focus on how to play this tune in the key of D on just one acoustic guitar. Here are the intro chords and TAB.
The name of these extensions is a consequence of the melody paired with the bass note. Let’s break this down:
- Bar 2 – D6 has a 3rd and 6
- Bar 3 – D5 has no 3rd
- Bar 4 – D6(omit3) has a 6 but no 3rd
- Bar 5 – D5 has no 3rd, D/F#, the F# is the 3rd
- Bar 6 – Gsus2 has no 3rd, Aadd4 has a 3rd, Aadd9, the 3rd is still ringing
- Bar 7 – Dsus2 has no 3rd, D/F#, the F# is the 3rd
- Bar 8 – G5 has no 3rd, Aadd4 has a 3rd and 4th
Perhaps the intro is more complicated to understand than to play! Here’s the verse, it’s much easier:
I wanted to bring some repetition to the part here, perhaps you should start with this, then find ways to vary it as you feel more comfortable with the song overall.
Here’s You’re Still The One’s bridge TAB:
I like how it starts with the 3rd in the bass, then goes to chord IV early, and gives chord V a full bar. So simple, so effective.
Then, when repeated there’s no 3rd in the bass, and we finish on a syncopated IV chord to take us to the chorus, which looks like this:
The chorus needs to be as big as possible so I’ve added the 5th in the bass for the first chord. In a band, the bass player doesn’t play this note.
The rhythm is consistent throughout to provide an easy singalong. That G from the bridge is back before we repeat it, the last chord is held to bring us back to a verse or later on, a solo.
