There’s a surprise rhythm in I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus which is much more difficult than I expected. It may look simple but to actually stick to it throughout is a different kettle of fish.
Before we get to that though, let’s look at the intro, this is played in free time.
I really like that first chord, a G shape, it builds so nicely with the C#m and F#m. When repeated, I’ve gone for bass note, then the chord.

Let’s move on to the chorus. Initially, I thought the rhythm was the classic 2 and 4, with the 2 having two hits. Turns out it’s not on the 4, but 3 +. This makes it so much harder!
Apart from the rhythm, the main thing here is the E7 – E6 chord lick.
Next, the verse. This is so much more difficult and a great opportunity for you to get better at playing chords like this.
Having a new chord o the last stab in the second half of the verse is not easy.
