Murder On The Dancefloor | TAB
It’s not going to be easy to play Murder On The Dancefloor’s chords perfectly. Even though there are essentially only two sections, there are subtle differences throughout.
For example, the bridge is probably more often than not using an F#m11 chord, not F#m7. However, the guitar is most likely best suited to play just F#m or F#m7.
Another example is that during the verse and chorus when the chords are G#m7 – F#m7, the guitar mainly plays triads, not min7.
A third and final example is that the breakdown chorus uses the bridge chords, most bands will look confused here.
What’s really interesting to me is how, in a way, both sections are the same. Emaj7, B, and G#m7 are all very similar, mainly different in root notes. So are the F#m7 and A chords.
Using Roman Numerals, the intro and bridge is I – V – II – IV, and the verse and chorus is III – II, using the chromatic min7 chord in between as a passing chord (Gm7).
In general, as the keyboards play the extensions, the guitar can play just triads, then finish off on an Emaj7, leaving the big extensions for the keyboard player.
Here’s some TAB to get you going, I’ve tried incorporating some extensions for the bridge. Experiment with more inversions and maybe some effects like delay.
When it comes to the verse and chorus, your main focus needs to be the rhythm, you could perhaps try the odd extension and maybe other chord shapes, but in the end, you’ll probably just end up playing this on a loop:
If you’re thinking, what happened to the Emaj7 in the verse and chorus and why is that not in this TAB? Thrn the answer to that is that G#m and Emaj7 uses the same notes.
