Moves Like Jagger | TAB
Let’s take a look at the finer details of how to play Moves Like Jagger, we start with the original parts before developng the concept.
First of all, the arrangement details of when there’s a stop, breakdown or an extra bar is best studied using the lyrics and chords or the chord chart. Here is the chorus displayed using TAB.

We simply move the same idea down from Bm7 (chord VI) to Em7 (chord II).
The initial hammer-on could be named 9sus4 although that does feel a bit over the top. Perhaps a better name is sus2/4 although iReal Pro doesn’t like that name. 11 is another possibility and so are A/B and D/E.
On the other hand, the first chord only lasts for a 16th so maybe it should just be Bm7 and Em7!
Anyway, here’s the intro/verse, only the muted strums are added, practise this using the loop in the playlist.

All that has changed here is that we play those muted strums at the end. This may seem like a tiny detail but it does make a difference. Taking them out makes the chorus bigger.
As great as it is to learn what’s on the original recording, perhaps it should be modified. Here’s example 3, I like this…

What I’ve done here is moved the Bm chord down the neck so it’s closer to the Em7. It does mean it’s not the same anymore, it’s not even a min7, but I like it.
I’m sliding in, instead of hammering on from that 11 chord. For good practise, the example uses mutes first, then not. Practise like this will make you more accurate so you can control when to add them.
Here’s another idea, this one is very hard…

What I’ve done here is add more strums and mutes, try it along with the loop!
Finally, that hook line is using the B minor pentatonic, like this:

I think it would be a great idea if you played this in all positions. I’ve written that you should slide in the first note, for the second one, you could slide or hammer on, so try both!
On a final note, perhaps you should also try playing the vocal melody. It’s all B minor pentatonic, try it!
