Mardy Bum | TAB
Let’s go through all of Mardy Bum‘s sections using TAB and discuss each section as we go along, here’s the intro.
We start with a D shape for the G chord, it’s important to be brave here and not worry about the chord sounding small, lean into it, and it’ll make the next part bigger.
Moving down using two Dm shapes to the open A chord, it is tempting to make it bigger as we hit that A but then the impact will not be as big next.
Once the verse progression kicks in we strum it intensely, but make sure it’s divided up, if you hit all strings at the same time, you’ll sound like a beginner.
Notice how the strumming changes when it’s repeated, beat 1 has a bass note on the 1 + now and we don’t play the high E string as much.
Here’s the first verse, we start with just playing one strum per bar, a great contrast to that intense intro!
Notice how the strumming, once it gets going is again new. Now we play a big 1, then avoid the top E string, this tightens up the pattern and leaves more space for the vocal.
For verse 2, strum like the second half twice.
Here’s chorus 1 and 2, again, we start with a chord per bar.
Just like the beginning of the intro, you must be brave here and strum this empty pattern with great confidence.
The middle 8 is just played with power chords so I didn’t write this in TAB. Play along to the original recording and you’ll get it.
The final chorus, which is also the outro, is played even more sparsely than what you saw above, it looks like this:
