Last Request | TAB
Let’s go through each section of this awesome tune using TAB, which is designed to work on one acoustic guitar.
Practice each example on its own before you play along with the original recording and allow small variations to appear naturally.
Here’s the intro/verse, start with this idea, stick with it and aim to make it feel relaxed.
Rhythmically, it reminds me of Price Tag, which was released four years later…
Anyway, in the key of D, this is a I – III – Vm – II progression, the chords are extremely unusual. A Vm can be found in Natural Woman as well but very few other tunes.
Let’s try the verse again, this time, we play more!
Practise this as well and all sections coming up. Once digested, you’ll probably end up playing a combination of these ideas.
Here’s the bridge. Played with confidence, that last chord will sound great.
Lastly, here’s the chorus. This is a very common chord progression. It works well as it’s a chorus but also as a contrast to that very adventurous verse.

Paolo Nutini’s career started when an artist was late to perform at his school, Paolo was asked by the music teacher to go up and sing a song.
The reaction from the crowd to Paolo’s naturally stunning voice caught the attention of his (soon-to-be) manager who happened to be in the crowd.
