I Wish | TAB
Using the loops above, learn all sections before you return to the chords lesson for I Wish and play with the backing track.
Here’s the intro bass line. I’ve added a little 16th note which is a keyboard addition, the bass plays the 8th notes throughout.

Here’s another version of the bassline. Now we add more extra notes, practise to the loop!

Let’s move on to the verse, here’s an understated way to play it.

Let’s also look at an over-the-top version, now we play the melody and answer it!

Perhaps the best way forward is to practise both, then play something in between as you stay attentive to what the rest of the band is playing.
Here’s I Wish bridge TAB.

And this is the chorus. I like how the Ab7 is now a dominant chord whereas in the verse, it was just a triad.

This is the breakdown section, playing this sometimes delights singers, sometimes not…

Finally, here’s the outro.

When you feel confident with the band (practise to the backing track in the chords lesson), transpose it all a semitone up and get that acoustic guitar out!
I Wish Acoustic | TAB (Em and E)
Here’s the TAB my one acoustic guitar arrangement for I Wish by Stevie Wonder.
In an ideal world, you learn how to play this classic both on the electric guitar (band) and as a one acoustic guitar arrangement as this will not just deepen your knowledge of the guitar, but also music in general.

Stevie Wonder is the legend whom most practising musicians come across and who has a life-changing impact on them.
Stevie’s natural groove and ability to purely express music are untouched. His vocal phrasing and songwriting are second to none.
