Havana (Camila Cabello) Guitar Lesson with TAB

Havana Guitar Lesson + TAB
In this guitar lesson, you get three pieces of TAB for how to play the seemingly simple chord progression. Example 3 is very complex!

Havana | TAB

There is so much music in these three chords!

Let’s look at some TAB to find out more, learn these first, and then start combining/improvising with this as the platform. Here’s idea 1.

Havana TAB, idea 1.

We use a Gm7 (chord VI) and then move to chord IV (Eb), playing chord IIIx (D7) early. Beat 1 of bar two is rested, arpeggiate up to dom7b9, back to D7.

The second half seemingly moves the Eb chord as the 5th of Eb is also the m3rd of the Gm. As there is no chord, we call this Eb5 now.

The D7 is then again rested on beat 1, extended to a D7#5 instead of D7b9.

Make sure you can play this well before you move on to idea 2, which looks like this:

Havana TAB, idea 2.

Here we play an octave up for the Gm, which is what the piano does on the original. The Eb and D7 are the same as in idea 1. The next D7 is a simple arpeggio.

For the second half, we play a Gm7, although the b7 is very late, almost like a Gm/F. The Eb is delayed and also described as an extension, Ebmaj7, but could be Eb/D as well.

The final bar uses the D7b9 temporarily in a new way. Again, practice slowly, as it says, you can start improvising soon, but not yet.

Here’s the final example, this is difficult!

Havana TAB, idea 3.

Just like in the previous example, the b7 is delayed, now in bar 1. The Eb is straight ahead, the D7b9 is only over one 8th note, and the rest is a D7.

In bar 3 we have a Gmmaj7 (very Latin!) as we go towards the Eb chord chromatically. The final D7 uses a long bass line to get back to Gm again, practice slowly.

When you can do it, start improvising, this tune is awesome!
