Can’t Take My Eyes off You | TAB
As there are so many sections in Can’t Take My Eyes off You, let’s get to it straight away and go through them all using TAB, starting with that intro.
In the key of E, we start with an E/F#, which could be described as an F#11 as well. Am6/E is the IVm chord.
The maj9 extension on the E is a consequence of including that horn line. I change the way the horn line is fretted to get to the chord when repeated.
Here’s the first verse, I’m combining the bass with the guitar stabs and adding a bit more. The chords moving major – maj7 – dom7 are found in many other tunes, such as Kiss Me.
Here’s verse 2. I repeat the first bar to create more excitement. The last line is the first horn line rather than as in verse 1, the last from the intro.
Before the chorus, we get an instrumental line, I haven’t included the notes but instead, use the same rhythm. This section comes back later, that time, go to 3, like this:
The chorus is II – V – III – VI. When repeated, a II – V – I – VIx. The last time, we go to II and then play a D9 which sets up the next verse in the new key of G.
Here’s the last verse, this is now in G so the D9 we just had was chord V in this key. Other than that the chords are the same as before, just in G. I’ve changed the strumming pattern to something which reminds me of House Of The Rising Sun!
Practice all sections individually before you play along with the original.
When you can do it, call a singer and book a gig!
