Believe | TAB (tune down 1/2)
OK, let’s pretend that you wrote this song, it must work on one acoustic guitar. Play exactly as the TAB says here for the verse and sing along an octave below Cher (if you are a man).
Play beats 2 and 4 with a strum, don’t pluck it. Don’t use a pick, strum with your fingers.
There are subtle changes here that you as a pop music producer would use in an arrangement, here we’ve done it in our guitar part.
- G – Gmaj7 is later G – Bm, only the bass note has changed
- The G chord is first an E shape, then an open G
- We alternate between strings 3/4 and 2/3 in the first half
- The D chord is a full D in the first half
- There’s movement in the bass line in the second half
- The final D is a D5
The chorus uses the second half of the verse rhythm throughout, the bass is now static.
The middle 8 uses the verse’s first bar’s rhythm throughout. The D is a D5 until the last chord.
Remember to sing an octave lower than Cher and play consistently. This is how Swedish producers who write and arrange pop music work.
Only once it’s passed the acoustic guitar test do they switch on the computer!
